Flex-Sus

The double-wishbone suspension is a staple of modern vehicle handling, comfort and adjustability at the cost of high overall mass and numerous points of failure, which reduces vehicle performance. Our group has taken a biomimetic approach in redesigning the double-wishbone suspension. We are utilizing modern manufacturing techniques, advancements in material science, and compliant structures inspired by the spine and trabecular bone. This has resulted in a significant reduction of overall and unsprung mass contributing to improved straight-line and handling performance in vehicles.

The Power Jack
38
The Power Jack is an all-in-one, automated car jacking system that allows a user to safely raise and lower a vehicle with reduced risk of injury or vehicle damage. The Power Jack utilizes sensors to implement enhanced safety features, such as tipping detection, and a dual-button input for users to easily operate the system without requiring large amounts of effort. The Power Jack is aimed to ease the life of those who wish to conduct vehicle maintenance in their own homes.

Thermal Imaging Technologies
39
Our project looks to create a system to evaluate both temperature and emissivity of crops within a field. This can be done by gathering temperature readings at multiple wavelengths within the far thermal IR range (8-14 micrometers) and creating a system of equations to solve for emissivity and temperature. Our prototype will include both a filter swapping and calibration system as a proof of concept with a much lower quality IR camera to evaluate our proposed system.

Autonomous Railway Defect Repair System
40
Railway derailments constitute the majority of rail-related accidents each year, caused due to defective or broken railway tracks. This poses a threat to the physical and economic safety of passengers, operations, and management. Our Capstone aims to eradicate the long duration taken by current systems to identify, verify and manually fix defective rails by building an autonomous and comprehensive system. Scoping the rails with a laser-scanning mechanism, the system identifies, removes, and fixes potential defects, thus restoring the track to normal and safe operating conditions.

BrushSPA
41
Of the millions of people who wear makeup, few clean their makeup brushes regularly. While many complain the tools take too long to wash or to dry, dirty brushes can compromise skin health by breeding bacteria and causing acne breakouts. Our project aims to deliver a quick, convenient, and effective alternative to washing makeup brushes by hand. The BrushSPA is a desktop device that cleans and dries multiple makeup brushes within minutes while accommodating various brush lengths and sizes.

Cloudwheel
42
Wheelchairs are an excellent tool for people with mobility disabilities to move around with, however, the constant repetitive upper-body movements that occur during wheelchair propulsion increase the user’s chance of developing musculoskeletal injuries. Cloudwheel aims to reduce these fatigue-induced injuries by designing an advanced electrical assistance system that is compact, lightweight, affordable, and easy to install onto any manual wheelchair. The goal of the project was to create an alternative to electric accessibility scooters, which are typically more expensive and harder to transport long distances.

Artificial
43
Artificial is a project that utilizes AI technology to create unique, robotically-painted art. The project allows people to commission custom art, with the AI algorithm generating one-of-a-kind visual creations based on user input. The unpredictability of AI-generated art is combined with the precision of a robotic arm to bring AI-generated art to life. The project aims to push the boundaries of what is possible with AI and robotics in the realm of art, offering a new level of expression and personalization in the creation process.
