Evaluation

7.1 Technical Exhibition

The technical exhibition is worth a total of 50 points out of 100.

7.1.1

20 points are allotted to the concrete design; they are allotted as follows:

  • 10 points mix design.
  • 5 points reinforcement design and layout.
  • 5 points curing and overall concrete condition.

7.1.2

10 points are allotted to the braking system design. Points will be awarded based on the general design, the use of appropriate materials and innovation in design.

7.1.3

20 points are allotted for general presentation. Points will be allotted in the following way:

  • 5 points for team spirit (teams always in their outfits, creative chants etc.).
  • 5 points for clarity, aesthetic appeal and originality of the technical exhibition.
  • 5 points for the quality and completeness of the technical report.
  • 5 points are awarded for the aesthetic appeal of the toboggan.
  •

    7.1.4

10 points are awarded for the aesthetic appeal of the toboggan and the technical exhibition.

All categories will recieve higher scores where the work is obviously undertaken by team members. For example, teams who have outside fabricators build their sleds or uniforms will score lower.

    7.2 The Race

The race performance is worth a total of 50 points out of 100.

    7.2.1

25 points are allotted for best time. The time of the best run will be used. All 25 points will be awarded to the team with the best time, the other teams will be awarded a portion of the 25 points based on the proportion of their time to the best time.

    7.2.2

10 points are allotted for the deceleration of the toboggan during braking. Deceleration will be used so as to combine braking distance with velocity across the line. The formula that will be used is

    v2/2d = -a

The best deceleration value will be used. A portion of 10 points will be allotted in the same fashion as for best braking time.

    7.2.3

10 points are allotted for the maximum velocity. This will be the highest velocity achieved by the team in either of their runs. Again the points will be proportioned in a similar manner.

    7.3 Penalties

    7.3.1

for each kilogram over the maximum permissible weight, 10% will be deducted from the total points earned in the Technical Exhibition portion.

    7.3.2

A penalty of 5 seconds will be added to a run time in which the toboggan is pushed beyond the start line.

    7.3.3

For each person that does not remain on the toboggan during braking, 20% will be deducted from the total points earned (out of 50) for the time trial in question.
