Wearable Cardiovascular Abnormality Monitor
26
This project creates a wearable health monitor and alert system for use in residential homes. The main advantages over current solutions are its hands-free emergency alert system and early emergency detection mechanisms, using a combination of health diagnostic information not available in existing smartwatches. With the wristband comes a stationary hub, allowing for low-power sensor data forwarding, and a remote server, allowing for the congregation and analysis of medical data. Both the hub and server have available emergency communication systems with residential homes’ medical staff.

FitKit:
Advanced Pet Nutrition System
27
FitKit is an automated pet nutrition system which regulates a pet’s food consumption by implementing a control system to dispense the amount of food specified by the owner and based on the pet’s weight, age, dietary restrictions, and activity level. The food is hidden by a mechanical actuator until the pet with the corresponding RFID tag is nearby, preventing access from other pets. The advantage of the FitKit is the built-in scale and accompanying user-focused app with data analytics to track the pet’s weight loss journey.

Online collaboration improves productivity in the workplace by 20-30%. Web browsing has long been a solitary activity that is shared only through cumbersome, high-friction solutions such as screen-sharing. Ebbe is a Chrome Extension that enables users to browse the web with other users in real-time on any website across the Internet. Users share a visually synchronized browser environment and are able to consume events from one another including mouse and keyboard events. Ebbe has the potential to substantially reduce the friction and complexity of online collaboration in a manner that moves away from existing screen-sharing and screen-takeover solutions and toward both a user-friendly and network-friendly approach.

AIWitness

In application areas such as crime detection or anti-terrorism evasion, the photos of criminal suspects are often not directly available. The objective of this system is to provide an AI solution to assist the police during the investigation and help the police to identify suspect individuals more efficiently. It is a conversation-based mechanism that enables witnesses to describe the appearance of criminal suspects, which returns an AI-generated image based on that information and starts an automatic image-matching search in the database.

Airplane blackboxes often suffer from a loss of data or become unrecoverable in the event of a crash and there are no current technologies that can retain a copy of the in-flight data. With the advancement of satellite internet in airplanes, blackbox data could be compressed and sent in intervals to a public blockchain network during the flight. The added benefit of a public ledger can reduce propaganda and political tensions surrounding airline crashes. Airlines would only need to add an external device to their blackbox that would handle the transfer and communication of the blackbox data. The public availability of this data will have widespread effects. It may make crash investigations easier and significantly cheaper, without the need for recovery of the physical blackbox. Furthermore, the availability of this data would advance the research into airplane malfunctions, such as the Boeing 737 MAX, for pilot training or airplane design purposes.
