SignSense is a solution that can interpret American Sign Language (ASL) in real-time and translate the signs into English, thereby bridging the communication gap between hearing people and those with auditory disabilities. Using machine learning and computer vision, this system is responsible for accurately detecting signs and translating them with correct meaning and minimal latency.

University students often suffer from mental health problems due to factors such as academic workload and homesickness. Social media platforms such as Reddit can offer valuable information on students’ mental health status. RedLife is an application that classifies mental health related posts in the university subreddit and presents them in a user-friendly dashboard. The main advantage of RedLife is that it provides an efficient and intelligent way for wellness counsellors to monitor mental health problems that are developing among students.

Soundinator

Soundinator is a voice separation tool which leverages deep learning to isolate overlapping voices in audio; a prime solution to the cocktail party problem. It provides a convenient method for ordinary users — without high quality and costing tools — to isolate the desired voices in recordings using their mobile phones. While other designs may only be able to separate noise, Soundinator is able to isolate a variety of overlapping voices, extending the usability beyond commercial convenience into larger-scale voice processing and recognition toolchains.

Personal.id is a system that amalgamates all government identification into one system. The scanner has a biometric sensor that samples the individual’s biometric data and a wireless reader to extract the individual’s credentials from their transponder. The scanner validates the individual’s identity by comparing the biometric stored on the blockchain to the sampled data. The advantages of this design are the use of biometric data for authentication, secure storage of identifying information, and simplification of user experience.

It allows the user to intelligently generate healthy meal plans and dynamically update grocery lists with real time pricing from local stores. Its algorithm considers a user’s dietary restrictions, budget, calorie requirements, favourite recipes and much more. Users can plan a week of meals with the click of a button. BudgetEats merges existing meal planning alternatives with deal hunting apps to provide a robust and cheap meal planning experience.

ParkSimply is a parking spot detection application that helps streamline the process of parking for drivers using computer vision and search algorithms. It matches each user with an empty parking spot and communicates the directions to them. The advantage of this design is that it requires minimal set up and does not rely on sensors which are usually expensive and unreliable.

Sieve is a novel processor architecture that provides affordable and customizable accelerated processing power. Sieve allows users to exploit emerging computing paradigms such as machine learning without developing custom hardware - the architecture provides the developers the ability to design and implement algorithms entirely in software. This design has the advantage of providing performance with customizability compared to existing systems that do not provide both customizability and performance.
