Mobile notifications are engineered to grab the attention of smartphone users to lure them into apps. Users with poor self-control skills are exploited through this design, as they frequently get distracted from doing more productive work. While blocking mechanisms such as “Do Not Disturb” can be used, a need still exists to help mobile users train their self-control muscle to resist temptations from notifications. Our iOS app “Temptify” trains and educates users to not succumb to apps they deem distracting and tracks their behaviour over time.

Amidst the rapidly growing online-dating industry, with an estimated projection of 270 million users in 2024, our website offers a solution to a common dilemma faced by two individuals who match on a dating platform: the difficulty of discovering shared interests while simultaneously juggling multiple conversations, which leads to matches falling through at an early stage. Through an activity recommender system based on both users’ interests, we aim to offer a greater likelihood of preserving valuable connections - something conventional dating apps don’t do.

Engineering Program Explorer

Students entering an engineering discipline at the University of Waterloo have a difficult time choosing a program which best suits their interests. If the students feel dissatisfied with their initial decision, the next steps to switch programs can be frustrating and challenging. To help in their decision process, our application dynamically showcases how different interests correlate to specific engineering disciplines and jobs. In a simple yet effective manner we can help students get one step closer to choosing a program that meets their requirements.
