Automatic Cold Brew Machine
26
The Waterloo Men's Coffee Society is striving to solve one of the world's most pressing problems: the scheduling difficulties of cold brew coffee. As young professionals with busy lives, we don't have the time or schedule flexibility to be in our kitchens 12 hours before we want cold brew. The automated cold brew coffee machine will solve this problem by allowing users to schedule recurring brews weeks in advance so that they can have coffee exactly how they like it, exactly when they like it.

Smart Cane
27
The visually impaired have long relied on “white canes” for navigation purposes, which can only provide feedback within their physical ranges. This limitation is not only dangerous, but it also discourages the visually impaired from travelling independently. Smart Cane tackles this problem by allowing long-range detection of obstacles and an integrated image processing technology to recognize critical aspects of independent travel, such as road signs. Project SC focuses on improving the quality of life of the visually impaired by addressing the shortcomings of preexisting devices.

Automated CNC Lathe
29
During CNC operations, anomalies in the form of tooth chattering or overcutting commonly occur. In modern implementations, a human observer is required to monitor the machine during operation. We have created a platform that eliminates the need for a human observer by automatically detecting an anomaly by uploading a constant stream of sensor data to the cloud. Our platform allows for easy installation and easy addition of more sensors. Next steps include implementing machine learning with the data from the cloud.

Automated Two Layer PCB Prototyping Machine (The Lobster)
30
The Lobster is 2-layer PCB prototyping solution designed to minimize the time between idea and prototype. The goal is to eliminate downtime in the design cycle, and facilitate the same fast, iterative design approach that 3D printers provide. The Lobster aims to be a low friction, plug-and-play solution which turns your circuits into physical prototypes with the press of a button, and no oversight.

Datalanta
32
Of the 600+ million people who run annually, over 50% sustain an injury. We aim to change that. Using pressure sensors made in-house, our project, Datalanta, detects sub-optimal running technique and offers real-time feedback to users before they sustain an injury! Our project has received sponsorship from Spensor Tech, who have generously provided us with data acquisition chips used to create our algorithm. Datalanta uses foot placement and pronation percentage to generate an overall running score providing insight into how runners are performing over time.
