Workout Watcher

1

The Workout Watcher is a smart yoga mat which aids in correcting yoga postures and movements in the absence of a yoga instructor.

The Workout Watcher calculates the ideal position and pressure for the chosen yoga poses based on the user’s biometrics. It then guides the user to correct their form, via a mobile app that provides instructions, until the user perform every yoga pose accurately. All user performance data and percentage accuracies are graphed over time and displayed on the mobile app.

NeedleDrop

2

Introducing NeedleDrop - the ultimate reading companion!

Sleek and portable, you can take NeedleDrop anywhere you go. Clip it onto any book or reading material and illuminate every page like an ordinary book lamp. But when you connect to our iOS app via Bluetooth, experience a whole new world of reading! As our discreet sensors use OCR to extract text and the sentiment of your reading is analysed through a neural network, your phone will start playing music that matches the mood of your book!

TrashTalk

3

TrashTalk is a multi-inlet waste bin that intelligently classifies garbage, and guides users to dispose of their waste in the appropriate inlet while keeping incorrect inlets closed. An app tracks waste data analytics and allows staff to monitor bin status, while over-the-air software updates enhance the AI by adding new waste items. By promoting waste consciousness through repeated use, the solution aims to minimize human error and solve waste classification problems at a larger scale.

FerADAY

4

FerADAY (Ferrofluid Actuation Device ArraY) is an array of electromagnets designed to drive ferromagnetic fluids. This apparatus will be a useful tool for research into the various applications of electromagnetic fluid control, such as water-jet cutting and soft robotics.

Specifically, FerADAY will supplement the research of UWaterloo's Dr. Zhao Pan. In our configuration, the electromagnets are placed below a shallow tank of ferrofluid, which will demonstrate the mechanics of this specific type of fluid pumping. However, many configurations of electromagnets and fluid channels are possible!

Solar Mates

5

Solar Mates is an Autonomous Solar Panel Cleaning Robot that aims to address the issue of maintaining optimal efficiency in solar panels. Accumulation of dust and debris on solar panels can decrease the efficiency of solar energy production by up to 25%. The robot will be equipped with a sensor and camera system to detect and clean the panels efficiently and without human intervention. This project will not only improve the overall performance of solar panels but also contribute to the growth of renewable energy.
