Professor, Associate Dean of Graduate Studies

Jason Grove’s interests include the use of case studies as a

teaching tool. In 2013, he participated in a training workshop on

the preparation and use of “the case method,” writing and

delivering an environmentally focused case study and other

case study materials for his classes.

This past year, Jason presented at the Canadian Engineering

Education Association conference, speaking on the use of case

studies in engineering. He is also part of the organizaing

committee for the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering

Conference, with a focus on planning student programs. The

conference will be hosted by Waterloo’s Chemical Engineering

          department in October 2014.

Frank Gu was awarded a Tier II Canada Research Chair

(CRC), and is using this position to advance research in

nanotechnology engineering. His CRC program aims to

          establish interdisciplinary research, combining functional

polymers and ceramic materials to solve problems in medicine,

          agriculture and environmental protection.

On top of work in his lab, Frank teaches a number of under-

graduate courses to Waterloo Engineering’s Nanotechnology

          students.

In June 2013, Ray Legge stepped down as Associate Dean of

Graduate Studies and International Agreements for the Engineer-

ing faculty. He assumed the position of Associate Dean of

Graduate Studies for the Waterloo as a whole in July. Ray looks

forward to working with colleagues and meeting the challenges

associated with graduate studies across the campus. He was also

awarded an Outstanding Performance Award from the University

          of Waterloo in 2013.

Ray has various research collaboraborations in academia and the

private sector. He participates in research on drinking water

treatment, and protein separation and characterization.

As Associate Chair of Curriculum and Accreditation, Marios

Ioannidis leads the department in improving its undergraduate

curriculum, based on the assessment of student outcomes.

Marios participated in the 10th International Conference on

Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies in 2013, where he

          presented research on absorption-driven nanoparticle

self-assembly that was subsequently published in the journal

          Langmuir.

He was pleased to see the establishment of Waterloo’s

Student Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers in

2013, a student organization for which he serves as the faculty

          advisor.
