Christine Moresoli actively promotes case-based teaching
scenarios as a vehicle to expose students to real-life, complex
scenarios. Her research group focuses on the development and
analysis of thermal processes for cereal food products, mem-
brane chromatography for bioseparations, fluorescence for
membrane fouling control and soy-based composite materials.
In 2013, Christine expanded her industrial collaborations with the
food sector and membrane filtration manufacturers, and her
research group hosted a number of international research
visitors.
Flora Ng was honoured to receive the 2013 Canadian Green
Chemistry and Engineering (Individual) Award from the Chemical
Institute of Canada. This award recognizes her research in
developing energy efficient green processes for upgrading oil
sands, the production of biofuelds and chemicals using novel
catalysts, and catalytic distillation. Flora’s research was featured
in the International Innovation magazine’s North American Issue.
This past year, she was appointed Chair of the University
Appointments Review Committee.
Rajinder Pal continues to work on his book, entitled “Electromag-
netic, Mechanical, and Transport Properties of Composite
Materials,” expected to be completed in 2014. The book will be
published by CRC press.
In 2013, he worked to improve the delivery of his undergraduate
courses to larger classes, and continues his dedication to this
teaching project.
Alex Penlidis is a Canada Research Chair for Engineering
Polymers, and also fills the role of professor at Waterloo Engineer-
ing. In 2013, he completed a tour of lecturing duty at the Dubai
UAE campus, where he delivered courses and interacted with
educational and research outfits in the area.
Currently, he is continuing his long-term academic collaborations
with colleagues in Civil, Systems Design, and Electical and
Computer Engineering at Waterloo, as well as other universities.
