Peter Douglas |
Professor and Director of the UAE Campus
Eric Croiset | Professor & Chair
Professor and Canada Research Chair in Biomanufacturing
C. Perry Chou | Assistant Professor
Pu Chen |
Professor, Canada Research Chair
Pu Chen’s research is at the interface of materials,
biomedicine and energy. His lab has had a significant
impact on the success of many emerging energy, biomedi-
cal and chemical technologies. Pu acts as the Canada
Research Chair in Biomanufacturing.
His research resulted in the creation of a start-up
company, working in nano-peptide technology. Other
technology developed in his lab is currently moving to a
pilot plant, with substantial capital investment.
C. Perry Chou’s research continues to aid in developing
integrated strategies for microbial biotechnology, molecular
biology, metabolic engineering, and biochemical engineering
for the manufacture of bioproducts, such as biofuels and
hyaluronic acid.
He also acts as an editor for Biotechnology Advances, and
guest editor for Bioresource Technology. Perry continues to
provide professional services as a reviewer for journal
papers, as well as a biotechnological consultant.
Professor Eric Croiset collaborates with the Waterloo Institute
for Sustainable Energy (WISE) to promote the concept of Smart
Energy Networks (SEN). He acted as moderator for a session
at the SEN Canada 2013 Leadership Event in September 2013.
This high level event brought together leaders in government,
utilities, business, civil society and academia.
Eric led and organized another SEN workshop in November,
focusing on R&D. He also participated in the 2013 World
Congress of Chemical Engineering in Seoul, and presented to
the Korea Institute of Energy Research on the dynamic
simulation of carbon dioxide capture processes.
Peter Douglas acted as Director to Waterloo’s UAE campus in
Dubai from 2009 to 2012. Since then, Peter has focused his
attention on winding down the international campus, and
ensuring a smooth transition for UAE students.
Currently, his research focuses on post-secondary education
applications for carbon capture and storage.
