The north shore of Lake Erie has long undergone extreme erosion between Port Burwell and Long Point. Along this 24 km stretch, annual erosion rates up to 5.4 m and 177 landslides have been identified. Given the high value of wind turbines, agricultural, and residential properties occupying the region, there is a need to minimize land loss. GeoShore Consulting has identified breakwaters and drainage systems to be the solution in reducing wave energy and groundwater seepage, maintaining shoreline stability.

In 2014, British Columbia's worst mining disaster in history occurred when Mount Polley's tailing dam failed, releasing 8 million cubic meters of tailing into the environment. A decade later, Mount Polley is resuming mining activity using the same tailing dam. EauDam Inc. is proposing an improved design for the tailing dam that minimizes the risk of failure.

The project is also focused on increasing the tailing storage system's sustainability during operation, by reducing energy use and discharge into the environment.
